It was slow, and an older couple walked in. I couldn't leave the register, and no one was ever near enough to flag down to cover me. in my 6hrs, I'd seen all 3 other employees all run out several times to take smoke breaks. I'm the only one at the register, everyone else is in department fuckall.

worked at a petco in Portsmouth, NH and I will never go back to any petco ever.Ħhrs in to my 9hr shift, i have not had one break and I am DYING for a bathroom run. The worst part was nobody bothered to show up to give me a break, and when I finally got a chance to call a manager to be all 'Hey can I take my legally required break at some point?' they were like "Uh-huh, sure" and finally sent someone over to relieve me 30 minutes from the end of my shift. It was great, that's the most easy-going area. My one Black Friday experience as an employee was a 4 hour opening shift (starting at like 6:45 am) in the candy area. And it was great, every single person who showed up I had to ask "Are you paying with cash?" and EVERY SINGLE PERSON would get really huffy and say "NO, is that a problem?!" And I'd have to be all "No, I just needed to know which register to use." It only takes credit cards, and it's better if the customer doesn't have a lot of stuff, but boy does it cut the line down.Īnd for some reason they made me use it one opening shift at Macy's, when I was the only working in the candy area which has two cash registers so there was no reason for me to use it.

Not exactly the same, but I've seen in department stores (Macy's, JC Penney) there'll be an employee with a portable scanner. TBH you're better off just looking at Amazon / online retailers and shipping items to your home nowadays. Also, make sure the deal isn't just normal price after a price raise in the weeks leading up to Black Friday. Most do this year and it's much more convenient to just order something that way at home in all of five minutes than rushing around like a madman for limited supply. One minute you're sitting down with loved ones saying how grateful you are for your possessions / family and the next you're trampling over people and hollering trying to get barebone models of electronics you don't even need because companies have convinced you you're getting an amazing deal.Īs for the thread, if you are planning on buying, check to make sure the store doesn't just have the same deals online starting Thursday at midnight. I've always found it ironic that it's less than 12 hours from the one meal a year where people sit down and pretend to be thankful and happy with what they have. >!insert spoiler here!< Other subreddits you might like: some
